Eurovision Stars Give Up Possesions for Charity

Greek’s most popular TV music channel, Mad TV, has organized another Mad Love Auction, for the fifth year running. The Mad Love Auction takes the personal belongings of popular Greek and Cypriot singers, and auctions them off, with the proceeds going to a chosen charity. This year, the international organization Medecins sans frontiers has been chosen to receive the takings.

Many Eurovision Song Contest stars are parting with their personal property this year. Helena Paparizou, the 2005 Eurovision winner, Sakis Rouvas, 3rd place in Istanbul and presenter of the contest in Athens, Konstantinos Christoforou, entrant for Cyprus in 1996, 2002 and 2005, Evridiki, another entrant from Cyprus in 1992 and 1994 and widely expected to represent Cyprus once more in Helsinki, as well as many more.

Thousands of bids have been received, and the many items on offer seem to be very popular with the potential buyers.

Among the items on offer are:
Helena Paparizou’s bolero
One of Christos Dantis’ most sentimentally valued hats
A dress worn by Evridiki on her summer tour
A pair of sunglasses belonging to Andreas Konstantinidis, as well as one of his best loved Sweatshirts
A Swarovski crystal studded T-Shirt, donated by Kaiti Garbi
The chance to watch the filming, and appear in a scene of Sakis Rouvas’ new film, Alter Ego, as well as on of the T-Shirts worn by his character in the film
Konstantinos Christoforou’s favorite leather belt
A pair of Rayban glasses, given by Pegky Zine
Michalis Chatzigiannis’ favorite necklace, along with his lucky ring

For the first time in it’s history, the auction will be supported by two international music channels. MadWorld (Mad/UBI World) in Australia and Blue Channel (Mad/ANT1 Satellite) in the USA will allow Diaspora Greeks the chance to bid.
