School Company Set to Expand

Pupils at Westhoughton High School have set up their own company to sell personalized T-Shirts, and mugs. They managed high sales over the past few weeks with the products being sold as personal gifts for Christmas. The company is called Sloganized and is part of the national Young Enterprise Scheme. This Scheme helps pupils set up their own businesses. The company was started up by a group of year ten and eleven students at the school, in October. The children had to raise money to start the business and their financial director Jessica Murphy said that this was achieved by "selling cakes during breaks and after school as well as selling shares."

The eight students that make up Sloganized are thinking about increasing the types of products that they offer for personalization, such as T-Shirts, and to offer their services outside of the school community. When the company receives orders, they create the products at the Bolton Technical Innovation. The children run the business themselves under the careful eye of the teachers Claire Locke and Mark Inman who help them out only when necessary.

Half of the sales that the group of children has accumulated during the Christmas period are being given to the charity Dogs for the Blind. Ashleigh Ainsworth, the managing director for Sloganized said, "It has been really busy recently and it seems to have been really popular to give more personal gifts this year. Our shareholders will be pleased." The members of the company have been recently to a workshop that was held at the Manchester University Business School so that they could learn more about the trade world. The reasons the children gave for taking on this type of venture was that they wanted to improve their CV and learn skills towards their GCSE in business studies.
